Dr. Rev. Aubrey Joe Nichols, age 77, passed away on Wednesday, Oct. 5, 2022, at the Carl Vinson VA Medical Center in Dublin, Ga.

Born on June 16, 1945, in Rabun County to the late Aubra and Stella Littleton Nichols. He was preceded in death by his wife Ann Gardner Nichols who passed away in 2009; and, his son, William Virgil (Bill) Nichols who passed away in 2011.

Joe was a 1963 graduate from Rabun County High School, shortly after high school Joe enlisted into the United States Army where he served from 1965-1968 during the Vietnam Conflict and earned the rank of Sargent. Joe was awarded many medals while enlisted and once he received his honorable discharge, he became a life member of the American Legion and was the youngest to ever be voted commander. He was also a life member of VFW post 4570, DAV. #15, and Vietnam Veterans of America.

After his time in the military Joe went on to further his education, graduating from, Truett-McConnell College (Cum Laude), Piedmont College (Cum Laude), and International Seminary in Plymouth, Fla., (Magna Cum Laude) earning his masters and doctorate in religious studies.

He is survived by one brother, William Larry (Willie) Nichols and wife Nola Jean Anderson Nichols; Nephew, Robby Nichols and wife Tonya; great-nephew, Seth Robert Nichols; great-nieces, Kayla Page and Kelsey Rose; and two aunts, Virginia Carpenter and husband Clarence and Shirley Cannon and husband Alton. He also left behind many beloved friends.

A funeral service was held on Saturday, Oct. 8, 2022, at 2 p.m. at King Memorial Community Church with Rev. James Turpin, Rev. Glenville Nichols, and Deacon Tim McClure officiating. Burial followed the service at Persimmon Community Cemetery.

The family received friends from 6-8 p.m. Friday, Oct. 7, 2022, at Hunter Funeral Home.
