Tickets for the annual Sid Weber Memorial Cancer Fund BBQ on July 5 have sold out.

“This is the earliest we have ever sold out, even though we increased our available tickets by 50,” said Ken Walton, president of the cancer charity.  “We sincerely thank our supporters, sponsors and patrons for their support.”

Walton said more than 40 volunteers are working to prepare for the July 5 event from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., drive-thru, pick-up event where 450 meals will be served.

He said sponsors and volunteers are working tirelessly to make this the best BBQ ever.

“We especially want to thank our sponsors,” Walton said. “Because they have donated all the food and supplies, all proceeds will go directly to cancer patients here in Rabun County.”

The sponsors and their donations include:

-Sunday Diner, Clayton - Donated Beans, Slaw, Buns, BBQ Sauce and other items, smoked chicken, and Boston Butts

-The Farmstead Market, Clayton – Donated 12 Boston Butts and 450 Leg Quarters

-Piggly Wiggly, Dillard (The Pig) - Donated Boston Butts and Plastic Bags

-Anonymous Pitmaster – Smoked 14 of the Boston Butts

-Sky Valley Country Club, Sky Valley – Cookies, food preparation equipment and supplies

-Pharmacist Molly Keaton-Ledford, Clayton - Donated Bottled Water

-Tomlins BBQ, Mountain City - Donated BBQ Sauce

The Sid Weber Memorial Cancer Fund provides non-medical expenses to cancer patients in Rabun County.

The only qualifications are to live in Rabun County and have a diagnosis of cancer.

Walton said the charity is currently assisting more than 60 clients here in Rabun County.
