Tickets for the Annual Sid Weber Memorial Cancer Fund Charity Barbeque are selling quickly and interested parties are urged to purchase immediately.

The BBQ will be held from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Friday, July 5, in conjunction with the City of Sky Valley’s Independence Day Celebration.

“As in the past, we expect to sell out of BBQ tickets prior the event,”  said Ken Walton, president of the Cancer Charity. “We are urging people to purchase tickets immediately so they don’t get left out,” he said.

The BBQ, which occurs before the fireworks, will be drive-thru, take out only at the Sky Valley Country Club Pavilion. The BBQ dinner includes pulled pork, chicken leg quarters, cole slaw, baked beans, bottled water and a cookie all for the low price of $17 for adults and $10 for children 10 and under.

Since the BBQ is generally sold out prior to the event, the Sid Weber Board of Directors has authorized the sale of 450 dinners, that is 50 more than last year.  However, residents and guests are urged to purchase tickets early because we again expect to sell out prior to the event.

Walton said thanks to generous sponsors all the proceeds from the BBQ will go directly to cancer patients in Rabun County. He said the Sunday Diner in Clayton, Piggly Wiggly in Dillard, Pharmacist Molly Keaton-Ledford, Sky Valley Country Club, Tomlin’s BBQ, and an anonymous donor are all helping with the food, supplies and cooking.

“This year we are very pleased to announce that The Farmstead Market in Clayton has also joined our list of sponsors,” he said. “We have counted on Sunday Diner, Piggly Wiggly and Sky Valley Country Club for years, but it’s great to see a new establishment  join in providing food for the event.”

“And, we also want to thank the more than 40 volunteers who make this event possible by serving and packaging the food. Without our sponsors and volunteers, this BBQ would not be possible,” Walton said.

Tickets can be purchased at the Sky Valley Country Club Pro Shop, The Sky Valley Timeshares Office, Sky Valley City Hall and from any Sid Weber Cancer Fund Board Member. Tickets can also be purchased on-line at www.sidwebercancerfund.org so there is no excuse to miss out on this great event.

The Sid Weber Memorial Cancer fund provides non-medical expenses for cancer patients here in Rabun County. The only requirements are the client must live in Rabun County and have a diagnosis of cancer.  For more information, contact Client Coordinator Shirley Rickman at 706-746-3550.
