He was born in Rabun County, and was the son of the late Ed and Varina Burrell Ritchie.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Frank, and a sister, Ethel Lee Lakey. He is survived by one brother, Tom and Julie Ritchie of Flowery Branch; three sisters, Clara and Earl Zoellner of Dillard, Jessie and Virgil Kilby of Rabun Gap, and Mayor Grace and Harrison Watts of Mountain City. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
Robert was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served his country during World War II, and was a salesman of boys clothing until his retirement at age 50. He was a world traveler and returned to Rabun County for his summers and wintered in Arizona. He was a member of Rabun Gap Presbyterian Church.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, July 12, 2014 at Lanier Villages in Gainesville. A graveside service will be held at Rabun Memory Park at a later date.
