Charlie “Hoyt” Ramey, 84, of Lakemont, went to be with the Lord and his precious Barbara on Saturday, March 29, 2014.

Hoyt was born in Rabun County to the late Burch and Essie Page Ramey. He graduated from Lakemont School. Hoyt was a second generation building contractor and was the owner of Ramey Builders. He was devoted to his community and served on the Rabun County Board of Education. Hoyt was a God-fearing man who was a deacon at Tabernacle Baptist Church and member of the Gideons. He imparted his love for the Lord and knowledge onto his family; this is evident when you are around the family. The love they have for each other and everyone they come in contact with is a true testament to Hoyt and Barbara in the way they lived their lives and what they imparted to their children and grandchildren, and this legacy will live.

Hoyt was preceded in death by: his loving wife, Barbara McKay Ramey; his parents; three brothers, Bobby Ramey, Russell Ramey and Johnny Ramey; and a sister, Ophelia Turner.

Survivors include: two sons and their wives, Cannon and Ruth Ramey of Lakemont and Steve and Linda Ramey of Clarkesville; three daughters and their husbands, Nan and Wayne Holcomb of Lakemont, Debra Marchman of Tiger and Lorie and Anthony Thompson of Clayton; two brothers, Clifford Ramey of Clayton and Mike Ramey of Wiley; two sisters, Janet Turner of Wiley and Opal Ivester of Hull; nine grandchildren; sixteen great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held Monday at Tabernacle Baptist Church with the Rev. Steve Townsend and Dennis Turner officiating. Burial followed at Wiley Cemetery.

Donations in memory of Hoyt may be made to Tabernacle Baptist Church, 6467 Highway 441 S., Lakemont, GA 30552; or to Rabun County Gideons, P.O. Box 241, Clayton, GA 30525.

Beck Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. An online guestbook is available at www.beckfuneralhome.com.
