Harry Wade Deaton Sr., 65, husband of Janice York Deaton, of Beaufort, S.C., died Friday, Feb. 14, 2014, at his residence.

Harry was born July 4, 1948, in Winston-Salem, N.C., to the late Oliver Wade Deaton and Catherine Shankle Deaton. Harry graduated from Myers Park High School in Charlotte, N.C. He attended North Carolina State University, where he was a member of Kappa Alpha fraternity.

Mr. Deaton was a car dealer and owned his own dealership for many years. He served our country in the U.S. Army and was an avid fisherman, hunter and golfer. He was a member of Ducks Unlimited and was a sponsor for many years. Harry also belonged to the Sertoma Club for many years and was a lifetime member of the Beaufort Yacht Club, having been a past commodore for two different terms.

Surviving, in addition to his wife, Janice, are a son, Harry Wade Deaton Jr., and grandson, Baylen Deaton, all of Beaufort.

A committal service will be held at 1 p.m. Friday at Roane Cemetery in Clayton with the Rev. James Turpen officiating.

The family suggests that donations be made to the Jimmy V. Foundation, 106 Towerview Court, Cary, NC 27513; Karen York DuBois Scholarship Fund, in care of Angela Luke, Rabun County High School, 230 Wildcat Hill Drive, Tiger, GA 30576; or Head and Neck Cancer Center, Hollings Cancer Center, 86 Jonathan Leeds St., Charleston, SC 29425.
