Laura Law Baker, 78, of Mountain City, passed away Sunday, Dec. 29, 2013, at Northeast Georgia Medical Center.

She was born in Fort Pierce, Fla., to William Charles and Elizabeth Greene Law.

Mrs. Baker was a floral designer and was one of the founders of Heathcote Botanical Gardens and was a member of St. Lucie County Garden Club and Bridge Club. She was also a member of Liberty Baptist Church.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by: her loving husband, Edwin John Baker; and a sister, Patsy Law.

She is survived by: two daughters, Lisa Southard of Vero Beach, Fla., and Holly Newman of Mountain City; two sisters, Ann Prevatt of Jacksonville, Fla., and Gerry Hughes of Lake Weir, Fla.; five grandchildren, Brooke Southard, Heather Auchter, Gary Baker, Darian Newman and Derek Newman; and three great-grandchildren, Jacob Auchter, Ashton Baker and Tylon Johnson.

A memorial service was held Jan. 2 at the Beck Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Alton Dendy officiating.

Memorial donations in Mrs. Baker’s memory may be made to Liberty Baptist Church Benevolent Fund, 2206 Bridge Creek Road, Tiger, GA 30576; or to Heathcote Botanical Gardens, 210 Savannah Road, Fort Pierce, FL 34982.
