Jeff was born Aug. 22, 1965, in Clayton to Lorraine Hamby Matheson Corbin and James “Jim” Matheson. He was a lifelong resident of Rabun County. Jeff was a graduate of Rabun County High School and attended Piedmont College. He was a building contractor who loved his work, and he enjoyed his farm animals, dog and cat. He followed Rabun County Wildcats football and basketball and was always proud of the young men and women who pushed to be the best at the sport. Jeff was a loving father and grandfather who always had time for his family. He also enjoyed politics and followed local, state and national affairs very closely.
Jeff is survived by: his wife, Glenda Rogers of Clayton; his mother, Lorraine Hamby Corbin; his father, James “Jim” Matheson and step-mother Sandra Matheson; a son, Barclay Matheson of Savannah; a stepson, Rance Gillespie and wife Claudette of Valdosta; a stepdaughter, Lindy Gillespie Thomas of Clayton; a brother, Tim Matheson and wife Kristi of Clayton; two sisters, Lisa Bonnette of Long Creek, S.C., and Michelle Matheson of Tiger; two grandchildren, Kennedy Gillespie of Valdosta and Brenton Thomas of Clayton; and a number of nieces and nephews.
A memorial service was held Monday in the Beck Funeral Home chapel with the Revs. Madison McCrackin and Jim Carver, and Rance Gillespie speaking.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, P.O. Box 1000 Dept. 142, Memphis, TN, in memory of Jeff.
