Elton Drew Smith, 87, of Tiger, died Thursday May 2, 2013, at his residence.

He was born Oct. 5, 1925, in Rabun County to the late Jiles W. and Alda Belle Smith. He was the husband of Fairy Mae Eller.

He was a retired textile employee with Clarkesville Mills and also as a farmer. He served in the U.S. Coast Guard during World War II. He lived his whole life in Habersham and Rabun counties. He was a member of Wolf Creek Baptist Church for many years.

He was preceded in death by: a brother, Roger Smith; and four sisters, Ruth Mashburn, Jean Tyler, Virginia Smith and Martha Dover.

Survivors include: his wife, Fairy Mae Smith of Tiger; two sons and a daughter-in-law, E. David Smith and wife Wanda of Tiger and Donald L. Hamilton of Tiger; three daughters, Janice S. Tatum and husband Chris of Clayton, Cathy A. White and husband Danny of Tiger and Lora A. Parker and husband Greg of Clayton; a sister, Wilma White and husband Bob of Ball Ground; seven grandchildren, Lacy Bowyer, Jessica Surls, Luke Smith, Dillon Parker, Alicia Kilby, Kallie White and Tristan Hooper; and a great-grandchild, Katanna Bowyer.

Funeral services were held Sunday at Hunter Funeral Home with the Rev. Larry Cannon and Lloyd Hunter officiating. Burial followed in the Wolf Creek Cemetery with military honors.
