Frank Bradbury Halter, 83, of Greenville, S.C., passed away peacefully Tuesday, Jan. 29, 2013, at his home.

He was born in Atlanta to the late Louise Bradbury Halter and Vern Ralph Halter. He was an Eagle Scout and a graduate of Boys High and the University of Georgia. Frank was the chairman of Caine Company and had served in and run the business for the past 60 years. Under his leadership, Caine Company grew from one office and 12 associates to eight offices and over 200 employees and associates. Prior to Caine Company, Frank began his career by volunteering for the U.S. Air Force as an intelligence officer and served in Korea as a captain.

Frank’s accomplishments in the business community are well known and include numerous development projects in both commercial and residential real estate across the Southeast.

Frank tirelessly gave his life to service and his community. He served on the board and in numerous leadership positions for countless organizations, including United Way, YMCA, American Red Cross, Blue Ridge Council of Boy Scouts, Christ Episcopal Church and Furman University. He was awarded the Order of the Palmetto in 2010 by Gov. Mark Sanford.

Frank’s greatest joys were his family, his friends and his church. He always found time for his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. His friendships were lifelong and filled with love, adventure and fun. He enjoyed spending weekends at Lake Rabun and was a member of Lake Rabun Association. He was an avid Georgia Bulldog fan.

He was a man of great faith, integrity, compassion and humility. His giving spirit was present in everything he did and everyone that he touched throughout his entire life. He believed that you were supposed to leave the world a better place than you found it — and he lived this each day. He was a southern gentleman and truly an everyman, a friend to all. With a constant smile and abundant energy, his positive attitude was contagious.

He was preceded in death by: his wife, Shirley Caine Halter; a son, Caine Halter; and a sister, Anne Mitcham.

Survivors include: his brother, Pete Halter (Sue) of Atlanta; a daughter, Debbie Halter Bell (Mike); a son, Frank Bradbury Halter Jr. (Sharon); a daughter, Laura Halter Sardone (Nick); a daughter-in-law, Laurie Halter Patrick (Tom); eight grandchildren, Lauren Smythe (Will), David Sigmon (Lauren), Lindsey Halter, Brooke Halter, Caine Halter Jr. and Page Halter, all of Greenville; and two great-grandchildren, Foster Smythe and Libby Sigmon. He is also survived by Pam Blakely, whom he loved dearly.

Funeral services were held Jan. 31 at Christ Church Episcopal in Greenville. A private burial will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Christ Church Episcopal, 10 N. Church St., Greenville, SC 29601; or to Caine Halter Lungs4Life, P.O. Box 8307, Greenville, SC 29604.
