Services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday in the chapel of Collins Funeral Home in Acworth with Barry Lancaster officiating. Interment will be private at Liberty Hill Cemetery, Acworth.
Hugh was born Feb. 17, 1921, in Calhoun to the late Hugh A. Orr Sr. and Kathryn Nichols Orr. Hugh and Rachel moved to Cobb County shortly after they were married in 1945 and have lived there for the past 67 years. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy having served during World War II as a chief pharmacists mate. After 36 years with Cobb EMC as a special investigator, Hugh retired in 1986. Mr. Orr was a member of the Kennesaw Masonic Lodge #33 F&AM, 32nd degree Scottish Rite Mason Valley of Atlanta and Yaarab Shrine Temple. He was also a member of the Kennesaw Mountain Shrine Club, for which he served as president in 1974, was colonel of the Motor Corps and was past worthy patron of the Order of Eastern Star. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Marietta and an associate member of Valley Community Church in Tate City. Hugh and Rachel enjoyed spending time at their summer home in the North Georgia mountains on the Tallulah River, gardening and planning their annual Fourth of July celebration. Hugh never met a stranger and loved people.
Survivors include: his wife of 67 years, Rachel Bronzie Carlisle Orr; daughters, Peggy (Jerry) Crocker, Janie (Kenny) Spann and Linda Baughman, all of Marietta; a son, Hugh A. “Buddy” Orr III (Carol) of Murphy, N.C.; 11 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
