Ellen Armstrong Tallent, 69, of Franklin, N.C., passed away Wednesday, July 11, 2012.

She was born in Black Oak, Ark., to the late Marvin and Lorene Waites Armstrong. She worked at Walmart for 29 years, most recently as a department manager in Clayton, and had worked at Burlington for 24 years. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great‑grandmother. She coached and played softball for 40 years. She loved spending time at the lake and dirt track racing and attended Franklin Church of Christ.

She is survived by: her husband of 49 years, Joe “Mule” Tallent; two daughters, Joanne Tallent of Clarkesville and Karen Tallent of Franklin; a son, Ricky “Ribs” Tallent of Franklin; a sister, Myrna Kisner and husband John of Black Oak; a brother, William “Dub” Armstrong and wife Polly of Black Oak; grandchildren, Jonathon Owens, Heather Gragg, Ashley Nix Miller and husband Ronnie, Gabriella Tallent and Samuel Tallent; a great‑granddaughter, Kaydence; and several nieces and nephews.

Memorial services were held Sunday in the chapel of Bryant‑Grant Funeral Home in Franklin, with the Rev. Don Moffitt officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Relay for Life, Macon County Unit, P.O. Box 1648, Franklin, NC 28744.
