Dorothy Seay Speed, 83, of Dillard, died Wednesday, June 13, 2012, at her residence.

She was born Jan. 14, 1929, in Rabun County to the late Jesse Walter and Lola Tyler Seay. She was a member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church. She was a retired textile worker and was an avid deer hunter and fisherman.

She was preceded in death by her former husband, Richard A. Speed.

She was preceded in death by: two sons, Carroll L. Speed and Raymond C. Speed; two brothers, Andrew Seay and Daniel L. Seay; a sister, Edith Seay Speed; and her former husband, Richard A. Speed.

She is survived by: two sons, Arthur Speed and wife Jewell of Clayton and David Speed of Clarkesville; three daughters, Pat Gravley and husband Bill of Lakemont, Joyce Chastain and husband Ernest of Dillard and Barbara Clark of Clarkesville; a sister, Ellen Gray of West Chester, Pa.; a granddaughter, Joyclyn Speed, reared in the home; 21 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; a special caregiver, Kay York; and several nephews, nieces and cousins.

Funeral services were held Friday at Hunter Funeral Home with the Revs. Bill Gravley and Larry Cannon officiating. Burial followed at Pleasant Hill Cemetery, with the Rev. Danny Cannon conducting the graveside service.
