Carl Ronald “Ronnie” Tyler, 59, of Old Fort, N.C., and formerly of Sylva, N.C., died Tuesday, Feb. 21, 2012, at his residence.

Ronnie grew up in Mountain City and lived in Sylva before moving to Old Fort six years ago. He was a service technician for Freeman Gas & Electric for over 20 years.

He was preceded in death by: his parents, Lamar and Frances Tyler; two sisters, Marion Wall and Brenda Speed; and a brother, Jessie Tyler.

Surviving are: his wife of 40 years, Connie Cloer Tyler; his children, Tammy Dillard and husband Tony and Jason Tyler and wife Jennie, all of Sylva; sisters, Donna Frost and husband Dwight of Atlanta and Dana Tyler of Lawrenceville; six grandchildren, Brooke, Ashley, Cameron, Jayce, Jasmine and Toby; and a great-grandchild, Aaliyah.

A funeral service was held Saturday at Melton Funeral Home with the Revs. Andy Cloer and David Johnson officiating. Burial followed at Old Field Cemetery. Pallbearers were James Ensley, Norman Walkingstick, Greg Justus, Landon Cloer, Chip Shuler, Tony Dillard, Brian Hall and Ronnie Cloer.

The family wishes to express special thanks to Matthew Gaddy.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to: McDowell County Hospice, 575 Airport Road, Marion, NC 28752; or Cancer Centers of NC, 20 Medical Park Drive, Asheville, NC 28803.
