He was born in Westminster, S.C., to the late David and Edna Moore Powell. He was the former owner of Powell’s Produce. Mr. Powell was a hardworking father, was of the Baptist faith and a veteran of the U.S. Navy.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Phil Powell.
Survivors, in addition to his wife, include: two sons, John and D.J. Powell, both of Clayton; a daughter, Kim Powell of Walhalla, S.C.; a stepson, Tony Parks of Seneca, S.C.; two stepdaughters, Felica Flowers and husband Jay of Blue Ridge and Lola Ledford and husband Ronnie of Gainesville; a brother, Tommy Powell and wife Wanda of Westminster; and three grandchildren, Steven, Fay and Rowland Rochester.
Funeral services were held Jan. 4 at Sandifer Funeral Home in Westminster. Burial followed at Heritage Memorial Gardens.
