James Samuel “Sam” Wooten Jr., 70, died Sunday, Nov. 13, 2011, at Chester (S.C.) Regional Nursing Center. The funeral service will be 1 p.m. today at Zion Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Al Ward officiating. Burial will follow at Zion Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m. at Zion Presbyterian Church.

Born April 10, 1941, in Newnan, Mr. Wooten was the son of the late James Samuel Wooten Sr. and JoAnn Smith Wooten. He was a graduate of North East High School in St. Petersburg, Fla., St. Petersburg Jr. College, Western Carolina University and Clemson University. He is a former member of Lowrys City Council and the Highland Ruritan Club. He retired as a drafting instructor at the applied technology center of Rock Hill (S.C.) Schools after 35 years of service.

He was a member of Zion Presbyterian Church, where he served as deacon and was presently an elder.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Patricia Jeanne Wooten Foxx.

He is survived by: his wife of 43 years, Beth H. Wooten; a son, Jamey Wooten and wife Amy of Chester; four grandchildren, Emma Wooten, Lydia Wooten and Jessie Reydel, all of Chester, and Danny Foxx of Rock Hill.

Memorials may be made to the Zion Presbyterian Church Youth Fund, 2219 The Avenue, Chester, SC 29706.
