Mr. Clamp was born Nov. 10, 1917, in Anderson to the late William Arthur “Bud” Clamp Sr. and the late Elizabeth Mitchell Clamp. Formerly of Miami, Fla., Mr. Clamp and his wife, Jenny Mozelle Williams Clamp, retired to the mountains of Rabun County in 1970. His last years were spent with family in Anderson, Greenville, Pawley’s Island and Columbia. He served his country in U.S. Naval Intelligence during World War II, with stations in Trinidad and Cuba. In his professional career, he served as president and general manager of MPS Industries, a member of the board of directors for Miami Guaranty Savings Bank, president of Pan American Construction Company and co-proprietor of Miami Crushed Stone. He was committed to his family, church and community, most honorably serving as chairman of the deacons.
Mr. Clamp was preceded in death by: his wife of 64 years, Jenny Mozelle Williams Clamp; his grandson, Robert Keller Ward; his brothers, Oscar, Harrison, Parker, Claude, James Thomas and Julian Clamp; and a sister, Mary Heller.
He is survived by: his son and daughter-in-law, Bill and Mary Margaret Clamp of Pawley’s Island; his daughter and son-in-law, Nancy and Larry Pruitt of Greer, S.C., his daughter and son-in-law, Sandie and Cade Love of Columbia; five grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; his brother and sister-in-law, James and Martha Clamp of Anderson; and his brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Dohn and LaRue Williams of Miami.
