William ‘Bill’ Carpenter

William “Bill” Carpenter, 81, of Suches, died Friday, March 23, 2012.

Carpenter was born in Hayesville, N.C. He grew up in Clayton before moving to Suches, where he lived for 49 years.

He was the son of the late Henry Carpenter and Florence Webb Carpenter. He also was preceded in death by: his first wife, Ella Mae Carpenter; two sons, William David Carpenter and Larry Lee Carpenter; two sisters, Marie Hunnicut and Elizabeth Ann Queen; three brothers, Clarence, James and Robert Carpenter; two stepsons, Stanley and Tommy Green; and a stepdaughter, Stella Mosley.

Survivors include: his wife, Helen Carpenter of Suches; three daughters, Jean (Tim Ramsey) Henslee of Blairsville and Diana (David) Woody of Suches; a son, Mickey Carpenter of Social Circle; two stepdaughters, Minnie Marcus and Josie Mosley, both of Clayton; a stepson, Carl Green of Clarkesville; a daughter-in-law, Sherry Carpenter of Social Circle; a sister, Arizona Holt of Clayton; three brothers, the Rev. Carl Carpenter, Irvin Carpenter and Howard Carpenter, all of Clayton; 12 grandchildren; and many great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Sunday at Hunter Funeral Home with the Revs. Clarence Drummond and Carl Carpenter officiating. Burial followed at Bethel Baptist Church Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the family to help with burial expenses.

Banister Funeral Home in Dahlonega and Hunter Funeral Home were in charge of arrangements. An online guestbook is available at www.hunterfuneralhomega.com.
