Virginia Etheridge Wood, 90, of Decatur, died Wednesday, Nov. 23, 2011.

Mrs. Wood was born May 28, 1921, in Clayton to the late the Rev. Roy Piece Etheridge and Robbie Williams Etheridge. An honor graduate of Andrew College and LaGrange College, Virginia worked for the Georgia Department of Public Health in Atlanta until her marriage in 1945 to Thomas Miller Wood Jr. of Macon. A longtime Decatur resident, she was an active member of the Decatur First United Methodist Church. She was a talented artist, gardener and pianist.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband and sister, Marian Etheridge Blackwell.

Survivors include: her sister, Dr. Elizabeth Etheridge of Farmville, Va., and Sautee Nacoochee; three children, Dr. Elaine Wood of Cleveland, Nancy Wood of Boulder, Colo., and Tim Wood of Decatur; a grandchild, Sara Wood of Atlanta; a great-grandchild, Dylan Cameron Miller Weathington of Atlanta; and several nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held in Sautee Nacoochee at a later time.

Donations in her memory can be made to the United Methodist Children’s Home, 500 S. Columbia Drive, Decatur GA 30030.
