She was born May 5, 1935, in Bache, Okla., to the late Irwin Jerry and Mary Barrett Hedge. She spent most of her life in Rabun County. She was a classically trained Italian chef and had been a self-employed restaurant owner. She was a person of faith.
She was preceded in death by two brothers and three sisters.
Survivors include: two sons and daughters-in-law, Michael and Carol Shirley of Turnerville and John and Michele Shirley of the Shirley Grove community; four daughters and three sons-in-law, Margaret and Lowell Rogers of Clayton, Kathy Spence of Tiger, Debbie and Scott Johnson of Colorado and Diane and Stacey Jones of Clayton; three sisters and a brother-in-law, Melba Lindsey, Phyllis and Frank DeLeo, and Delores Heck, all of California; 10 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Monday at Hunter Funeral Home with Lloyd Hunter officiating. Burial followed at Rabun Memory Park.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Mrs. Shirley’s memory to the Sid Weber Memorial Cancer Fund, P.O. Box 485, Rabun Gap, GA 30568.
