Ralph Jenkins Dickerson, 97, of Clayton, died Tuesday, July 22, 2014, in Mountain Lakes Medical Center in Clayton.

Born in Hartwell, May 6, 1917, he was the son of the late V.C. Dickerson Sr. and Minnie Hendrix Dickerson, and he had lived most of his life in Clayton. He was a merchant in food stuffs and feed store and was an agriculture inspector for the State of Georgia, where he retired years ago. He was supportive of many organizations in Rabun County and was a volunteer in the Clayton Fire Department in his earlier days. He was a loyal member of the Clayton First United Methodist Church. He was the last member of his immediate family. He was twice married — first to the late Evelyn McMillan Dickerson and later to the late Ernestine Cass McGee Dickerson.

Mr. Dickerson was preceded in death, besides his parents and his wives, by a daughter, Sandra Lema; by a sister, Doris Dickerson; and three brothers, Charlie Mac Dickerson, J.H. Dickerson and V.C. Dickerson Jr.; and is survived by a granddaughter, Kelli Ramey (Donald) of Conyers; and by two great-grandchildren, Trevor Ramey and Coryn Byers; and several nephews and nieces; stepchildren Mackie Nix (Buddy), Mary Wiggins (Joe) and John Walter McGhee (Barbara); step grandchildren Tony Nix, Natalie Mitchell, Billy Newsome, Alan Newsome, Marissa Walters, Ian McGee and Tyler McGee, step great-grandchildren Meredith Stauss, Madalynn Newsome, Wade Newsome, Mattie Grace Walters, Alexis Landry, Gavin McGee and Peyton McGee.

A memorial service was held Saturday, July 26, 2014, at 4 p.m. at the Clayton First United Methodist Church, with Rev. Dr. Charlie Green officiating.

The body has been cremated and there was a visitation at Hunter Funeral Home on Friday, July 25, 2014, from 6-8 p.m. and visitation at the Church Fellowship Hall on Saturday, July 26, 2014, from 3-4 p.m. The family is at their respective residences.

Family asks that in lieu of flowers, memorial donations be made, in his memory, to Paws 4 Life, 261 Boen Creek Road, Tiger, Georgia 30576, Operation Homefront, 1355 Central Parkways Suit 100, San Antonio, Texas 78232, Alzheimer’s Organization

Hunter Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
