Mary Alice Sissel, 89, of Clayton, passed away Monday, Jan. 20, 2014, at Mountain Lakes Medical Center.

She was born in Hockessin, Del., to Joseph Pierson and Lucy Hahn Pierson. Mrs. Sissel was a catalog manager for J.C. Penney. She was an avid reader and orchid grower and was past president of the Orchid Club and former secretary and treasurer for Long View Condos. She also enjoyed gardening and she was an accomplished cross stitcher.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by: her husband, Jonathan Edward Sissel; and a son, Jon R. Sissel.

She is survived by: a son, Richard P. Sissel and wife Rita of Tampa, Fla., and Tiger; a daughter, Debi Sissel Trainor and husband Michael of Tampa; a brother, Joseph Pierson of Cochranville, Pa.; a sister, Ella Pierson Craig of Chester, Conn.; five grandchildren, Seth Trainor, Shelby Trainor, Mary Hawthorn, Jon Sissel and Joseph Sissel; and six great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Wednesday in the Beck Funeral Home Chapel with with the Rev. Chuck Stutsman officiating.

Donations in Mrs. Sissel’s memory may be made to the Friends of the Library, Rabun County Library, 73 Jo Dotson Circle, Clayton, GA 30525.
