Kitty Melle Carnes Vinson, 96, of Dillard, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, Oct. 25, 2011.

She was born in Rabun County to the late Virgil Austin and Bertha Dickerson Carnes.

She also was preceded in death by: her husband, Carl M. Vinson; three brothers, Max Carnes, Norman Carnes and Bob Carnes; and six sisters, Hazel Thomas, Elizabeth Brown, Clara Burrell, Mattie Sharpton, Floy Underwood and Iris Nelson.

Mrs. Vinson is survived by: a son, Mike Vinson and wife Diane of Etowah, Tenn.; a daughter, Cynthia Vinson of Dillard; two sisters, Carolyn Brewer of Clayton and Addie Sue Smith of Athens; five grandchildren, Cindy Bishop, Edward Keener, Valerie Watkins, Clay Vinson and Carly Masingale; 10 great-grandchildren; and a very special niece, Rebecca Vinson Sandlin.

She was a very active member of Head of Tennessee Baptist Church, where she also enjoyed singing in the church choir.

She was a member of Order of the Eastern Star in Clayton for 60 years. She loved her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and enjoyed cooking and canning.

Funeral services were held Friday at the Beck Funeral Home chapel with the Revs. Mark Bishop and Charles Efird officiating. Burial followed at Head of Tennessee Baptist Church Cemetery in Dillard with the Rev. Doug Porter officiating.
