Joseph Raymond Mixon, 79, of Dillard, passed away Friday, Jan. 18, 2013, at Mountain Lakes Medical Center.

He was born Sept. 2, 1933, in Greenville, S.C., to Alex and Elizabeth Pitts Mixon.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Bob Mixon.

He is survived by: his loving wife, Mary Alford Mixon; a son, Michael Mixon and wife Carol Ann of Minneapolis; a sister, Betty Thomas of Westminster, S.C.; and two grandchildren who were the light of his life, Catherine Ann Mixon and Laura Eleanor Mixon.

Mr. Mixon was a veteran of the U.S. Army and was retired from the state of South Carolina, having worked for Greenville Tech for 33 years, where he was assistant to the president and was director of planning and grants. He was an avid Clemson fan, loved playing golf and enjoyed being with others. He and his wife traveled across the country three times in their motor home.

A memorial service was held Wednesday in the Beck Funeral Home chapel with Bishop John Erbelding officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to a charity of your choice.
