She was a lifelong resident of Rabun County and was the daughter of the late Marvin and Olean Welch Wooten.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Joann Slaton.
Janie is survived by: her loving husband, Jimmy Jones of Clayton; a special “son,” Billy Wayne Wooten II of Berea, Ky.; two daughters, Nawana Lawrence and husband Avery of Tiger and Toni Jones Ritchie and husband Kenny of Clayton; a brother, Billy Wooten of Clayton; a brother-in-law, Larry Slaton of Tignall; a sister-in-law, JoAnne Jones of Clayton; two grandchildren, Casi Best, who was her best friend and nurse, and Marine Lance Cpl. Ricky Mitchell, who is stationed in Jacksonville, N.C.; and several nieces and nephews.
Janie worked as a fixer for Hanes Textiles and was a member of Boggs Mountain Baptist Church. She enjoyed shopping, flowers and camping, and her favorite hobby was being Mimi to Casi.
Funeral services were held Sunday at Boggs Mountain Baptist Church with the Revs. Joe McCrackin and Gabe Southards officiating. Burial followed at Blue Heights Cemetery in Mountain City.
