James Raymond “Jim” Darnell, loving husband of Bobbie Clark Darnell of Clayton, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, July 22, 2012.

Jim was born Oct. 1, 1939, to the late John R. “Buck” and Ruth Bingham Darnell of Rabun Gap. He was a member of the class of 1957 at Rabun Gap-Nacoochee School and served in the U.S. Army. After 33 1/2 years at Burlington Industries as a supervisor in the dye department, Jim returned to school at North Georgia Technical College and received his degree in small engine repair. He worked at Amrine Equipment & Rentals until his recent illness. He was co-owner of Clayton Flower Bed, where he brought smiles to many with his personal deliveries of flowers, his smile and hugs. He loved and was very active with the Rabun Gap-Nacoochee Alumni Center and particularly the Heritage Center. His favorite place in the world was at the alumni center where the beauty of his handiwork is very evident. He was a member of the Rabun County Board of Selective Services and a member of Trout Unlimited as well as the American Legion Post 220. He was a member of Clayton Baptist Church.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Virginia “Jenny” Darnell; and three brothers, George, David and Freddie Darnell.

In addition to his wife, Jim is survived by: his daughter, Tina Ivemeyer and husband John of Snellville, and his son Greg and wife Tracy of Tifton; grandchildren, Bailey and Abi Ivemeyer, Tori Darnell of Athens, Lawson Darnell of Tifton and Josie, Dalton and Anslee Jones, all of Tifton; brothers, Bill Darnell of Fresno, Calif., Frank Darnell and Reid Darnell, both of Clayton, and Wayne Darnell of Macon; and sisters, Becky Cannon and Diane Stowe, both of Clayton, Mary Ramey of Rabun Gap and Patti Gowens of Loganville.

Funeral services were held July 26 at Clayton Baptist Church with the Revs. Joey Thompson and Ray Conner officiating. Burial followed in the Darnell Family Cemetery off Blue Ridge Gap Road, with Tim McClure and Jim Nixon officiating.

Flowers are welcomed. Donations also can be made to the Sid Weber Memorial Cancer Fund; or to the RGNS Alumni Association, 339 Nacoochee Drive, Rabun Gap, GA 30568 in memory of Jim Darnell.
