Hoyt Allen Thomas Sr., age 82, of Otto, NC, passed away Wednesday, July 3, 2013, at a local nursing home. He was a native of Macon County, the son of the late Harley and Fannie Bradley Thomas. He is survived by his wife Betty Norton Thomas of 60 years. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great‑grandfather. He loved to saw lumber and he owned several saw mills.

He is survived by a son, Hoyt ”Roonie” Allen Thomas Jr. and wife Dawn of Dillard; two daughters, Elaine Hodgin and husband David of Otto, N.C. and Melissa Dills of Otto, N.C.; one sister, Nancy Wilson of Brevard, N.C.; five grandchildren, Shelly Finch, David Hodgin Jr., Neva A. Dills, Jonathan Reed and Keshia Reed; six great grandchildren, Haylee Overholt, Alyssa Hodgin, Cody Hodgin, Braylee Reed, Bryson Reed and Braeden Reed. He was preceded in death by four sisters, Hester Cabe, Beatrice Henson, Ivy Lee Rogers and Carrie Bell Chastain, two brothers, Billy Thomas and J.D Thomas, and one son‑in‑law, Denny Dills.

Funeral services were held Saturday at Mulberry United Methodist Church with Rev. Janet Greene and Rev. Aaron Duncan officiating. Burial was in the Mulberry Church cemetery. Pallbearers were Jonathan Reed, Dave Hodgin, Cody Hodgin, Vic Chastain, Phil Chastain and Pat McCall.
