Godfrey M. Funk, 87, of Clermont, passed away Wednesday, Jan. 8, 2014, at Northeast Georgia Medical Center following an extended illness.

Mr. Funk was born May 10, 1926, in Mount Airy to the late Godfrey and Essie Hefner Funk. He graduated from Cornelia High School in 1944 and served in the U.S. Navy from 1944-46. He then went on to college and received his bachelor’s degree in agriculture from the University of Georgia in 1950.

He was preceded in death by: his sister, Emma Mae Hunter; and brothers, Harvey Funk and Ralph Funk.

Mr. Funk is survived by: his wife of 63 years, Patty Funk; sons and daughters-in-law, Dr. Wesley and Becky Funk of Clayton and Mark and Janet Funk, Gary and Dr. Denise Funk and Loren and Michelle Funk, all of Gainesville; grandchildren, Suzanne Funk Aultman (Brian), the Rev. Matthew Funk (Kirstin), Sarah Funk Harvey (David), Laura Funk, Stephen Funk (Kimberlee), Daniel Funk (Allison), Joseph Funk, Rachel Funk, David Funk, Zachary Funk and Jacob Funk; seven great-grandchildren, Anna Leigh Aultman, Bryson Aultman, Samuel Funk, Andrew Funk, Brinklee Cope Funk, Cooper Funk and Maddie Grace Funk; brothers and sisters, Bonnie Lee Chambers, James Funk, Agnes Powell, Betty Jean Funk and George Funk; and special friends, Mancel and Emogene Oliver.

Funeral services were held Jan. 12 at Concord Baptist Church in Clermont. Burial followed at the Concord church cemetery with Dr. Levi Skipper and the Rev. Matthew Funk officiating. The family received friends on Jan. 11 at Strickland Funeral Home in Clermont.
