Mrs. Wright was born Nov. 24, 1926, in Buncombe County, N.C., to Fred L. and Mae McCullough Hannah. She graduated from Franklin High School (class of 1944) and then was employed by the FBI in Washington, D.C., during World War II. She worked for Burrell Motor Company and then Macon County, retiring in 1992.
She was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and sister. Her marriage to Ernest Carl Wright Jr. on June 20, 1947, ended at his death on April 8, 1999.
She was preceded in death by: her parents, Fred L. and Mae McCullough Hannah; a sister, Maxine Hannah; and a brother, Walter Hannah.
Survivors include: a son, Walter Carl Wright (Lynn); four daughters, Gloria Jean Thun (Charles), Sue Ellen Chastain (Rodney) and Donna Dee Hefner (Conrad), all of Franklin, and Brenda Lee Perteet (Kirk) of Tiger; eight grandchildren, Heather Wittekind (Chris), Shawna Lamb (Jimmy), Nichole Allen (Chris), Rance Perteet (Amy), Daniel Gibbs (Brittany), Megan Chastain, Krissi Benfield (Nathan) and Justin Wright (friend Kimmie); nine great-grandchildren, Devin Buchanan, Olivia Rowland, Kilee Lamb, Kehler Lamb, Piper Wittekind, Tristan Gibbs, Sarah Perteet, Brayln Wright and Silas Gibbs; two stepgrandchildren; four stepgreat-grandchildren; and a sister, Lucille H. Cocke of Franklin.
Funeral services were held Oct. 21 at Patton United Methodist Church with the Rev. Keith Newell officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery. Pallbearers were Devin Buchanan, Justin Wright, Rance Perteet, Daniel Gibbs, Jimmy Lamb, Chris Wittekind, Tracy Chastain, Chris Allen and Nathan Benfield.
