Gene J. King, 82, of Sky Valley, died Monday, Jan. 23, 2012.

Born in Hendersonville, N.C., he was raised in South Carolina but spent most of his life in Georgia, where he was married to his wife, Betty Jean King for 61 years. He retired from the U.S. Army Reserves after 26 years as a major. He loved fishing, golf, bowling and going to Cherokee, N.C.

Along with his wife, he is survived by: his children, Donna and Gary Littleton of Hoschton, Torrie and Chris Picon of Johns Creek, Timothy Gene King of Alpharetta and Ted Dean and Debra King of Woodstock; grandchildren, Joshua and Michelle, Becky and Will, Dustin, Chelsea, Jessica and Travis; and great-grandchildren, Nicolas and Anna.

Funeral services will be held at noon Thursday, Jan. 26, at Northside Chapel Funeral Directors and Crematory in Roswell with the Rev. Carey Gibson officiating.

In lieu of flowers please make donations in his memory to Regency Hospice, 236 S. Main St., Hiawassee, GA 30546. The family will receive friends on Thursday from 10:00 a.m. until the hour of the service at the funeral home.
