Evadale died Sunday, Oct. 20, 2013, at Cherry County Hospital in Valentine.

Evadale (Armstrong) Bartling, daughter of William and Anna (Larson) Armstrong, was born Nov. 24, 1921, at Plainview, Neb. Evadale spent her early years living on an acreage on the edge of Plainview and graduated from Plainview High School. On April 6, 1941, she was married to Osborne Joseph “Tub” Bartling at Plainview. The couple began their married lives in Creighton and were blessed with five children: Sandra, Lanny, Rainelle, Debby and Mark. Evadale was a devoted housewife and full-time mother, caring for her children as they grew. When her children left home and began their adult lives, Evadale went to work at Creighton Care Centre for 14 years. After Tub’s death on Feb. 25, 1980, she became a nanny and child-care provider for the Gerry and Jean Brockhaus family until her retirement. In late 2004, Evadale moved to Valentine to be near family, and continued to reside there until her death.

During her lifetime, Evadale was an active member of the Grace Bible Church in Creighton and was involved with the Ladies Circle and sang in the church choir. She had a beautiful voice and knew all of the classic hymns by heart. Evadale lived for her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and she loved them all very much. She enjoyed baking and spending time with her family. Evadale was always a positive thinker no matter how difficult the situation and was the rock her family looked to for spiritual and lifetime guidance. Her quick wit, great sense of humor and loving nature will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Evadale’s life and memory are forever cherished by: her children, Sandra Lawson of Georgia, Lanny (Dorothy) Bartling of Verdigre, Neb., Rainelle Wilson of Georgia, Debby (Dave) Otradovsky of Valentine and Mark Bartling of Norfolk, Neb.; a daughter-in-law, Gina Martin of Norfolk; 18 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; five stepgreat-grandchildren; and a sister, Betty Brunckhorst of Randolph, Neb.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Osborne Joseph “Tub” Bartling; and sons-in-law, Kenneth Lawson and James Wilson.
