She was born Nov. 6, 1924, in Murphy, N.C., to the late Nathan Alonzo and Della Carroll McDonald. Mrs. VanHook was a member of Oakey Mountain Baptist Church.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by: her first husband, Frank Morris Thompson; her second husband; Roger A. VanHook; and two sons, Morris Caney Thompson and Nathan Condon Thompson.
Survivors include: her daughter and son-in-law, Kay Thompson English and Jimmy English of Demorest; two granddaughters, Anna English Cahill of Demorest and Cindy Kay Ewalt of Marrietta, Ill.; a grandson, Caney Jim English of Demorest; five great-grandchildren, Alex English, Daniel English, Maverick English, Jesse English and Mason Ewalt; a brother, Tommy McDonald of Forest Park; two sisters, Willie Mae Weaver of Dillard and Shirley Keller of Clarkesville; and many nieces, nephews and friends.
Funeral services were held Tuesday at McGahee-Griffin & Stewart Funeral Home in Cornelia with the Rev. Brion Williams and Alex English officiating. Burial followed at Rabun Memory Park.
