Nantahala Hiking Club

Description:

The Nantahala Hiking Club is holding the following hikes. Bring water, a snack and wear sturdy shoes. Visitors and children 11 and older are welcome, but no pets please.
• Saturday: A moderate to strenuous nine-mile hike on Palmer Creek Trail in the Great Smoky National Park. Meet at 9 a.m. in Waynesville, N.C. There is a drive of 40 miles round trip. For reservations or more information, call leader Keith Patton at 828-456-8895.
• Saturday: An easy three-mile hike to amethyst mines that used to produce semiprecious stones for Tiffany's. This is the last time hike leader Jim Whitehurts will do this hike. Meet at 9:30 a.m. at the Highlands (N.C.) Bank of America. There is a drive of 30 miles round trip. For reservations or more information, call Whitehurst at 828-526-8134.
• Sunday: An easy two-mile hike on the Pickens Nose Trail to a viewpoint named for a Civil War general and a stop at Mooney Falls. Meet at 2 p.m. at Westgate Plaza (across from Burger King) in Franklin, N.C. There is a drive of 40 miles round trip. For reservations or more information, call leader Kay Coriell at 828-369-6820.
