Max Southard, 76, of Mountain City, died Wednesday, May 10 , 2017, at his home. He was the husband of Shirley Hoffman Southards.
Born in Otto, North Carolina, on Jan. 6, 1941, he was the son of the late Bill and Margaret Justice Southards.
He was a heavy equipment operator and was a member of the Blue Heights Baptist Church.
Max is survived by his wife, Shirley Hoffman Southards of the home, by four sons, the Rev. Gabriel Southards (Misty) of Dillard, Richard Dickerson (Lori) of Vancouver, Washington, Wesley Dickerson (Brenda) of Lakemont, and Shane Dickerson of Woodland, Washington, four daughters, Susan Welch (Faron) Clayton, Tracy English (Wesley) Clayton, Billie Jean Beck of Clayton, and Kelly Reagin (Phillip) of Rome, 23 grandchildren and 35 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were Friday, May 12, 2017, at 1 p.m. at the Eastside Chapel of Hunter Funeral Home, with the Rev.Gabriel Southards officiating. Burial will follow in the Blue Heights Baptist Cemetery.
The body was at Hunter Funeral Home, where visitation was at the Eastside Chapel on Thursday, May 11, 2017, from 5-8 p.m. The family was at the home on Infantry Lane, Mountain City.
Pallbearers were David Adcock, Raymond Dillman, Wesley Dickerson, Mack English, Bobby Dickerson, Jake Shelton, Scott Thompson and Keldon Dixon.
