Betty Sue Gibson VanWinkle, age 74, of Auburn, Ga., formally of Mountain City, Ga., suddenly passed away on Tuesday, Nov. 22, 2022, at her residence.

Betty was born on Aug. 16, 1948, in Clayton, Ga., to the late Frank Gibson and Pauline Gibson. Betty had retired from her human resources representative position at TPC Sugarloaf Country Club of the PGA Tour. She spent her retirement working in her beloved garden, spending time with family, and meeting new friends. Betty is one of 10 siblings who precede her in death; Louise Gibson Stancil and husband Carl, Jeanette (Jack) Gibson Justice and husband Luther, Mary Lou Gibson Roach and husband Thomas, Frank Gibson and wife Joyce, Jim Gibson and wife Glenda, Joe Gibson and wife Bernice, Lois (Toby) Gibson Trudell and husband Lyle, Maureen (Rene) Gibson Drake and husband Jake, and Oscar Gibson.

Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Stacey Kae and Paul Sontag of Buford, Georgia; daughter and son-in-law, Christina Jaye and Fred Quijano of Tampa, Florida; grandson Brendan and granddaughter-in-law Lamia; grandson Connor; great grandchildren Gabby and Drystan; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. Betty loved all the family furbabies and treated them as if they were her own including Ozzie, Marlee, Ghost, and Burberry, as well as those that have passed; Buster, Callie, Mazda, Boo, and Blackberry.

Betty was a loving mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. She was a friend to many and never met a stranger.

A memorial service was held Thursday, Dec. 1, 2022, at 11 a.m. at Hamilton Mill Memorial Chapel and Gardens. For more information, contact 770-945-6924.
